‘Omkara’: Intensity at brisk pace

Saif Ali Khan!!! We are talking about complete metamorphosis here. Saif has improved by leaps and bounds in terms of real acting. Whenever people will talk about ‘Omkara’ they will have to discuss ‘Langda Tyagi’. I feel director Vishal Bhardwaj has done everything right with the movie except the selection of the name of the movie. The name of the movie should actually be ‘Langada’ rather than ‘Omkara’. The whole story revolves around the character of ‘Langada Tyagi’ excellently played by Saif Ali Khan.

‘Omkara’ is a no non-sense movie with crisp screenplay and astounding performances. Story is simple, violent, intense and fast paced. Movie entertains you at all the instances. Pace has been maintained throughout. There are no lack lustrous performances or characters or scenes. Every bit seems to be interesting. Talking about acting performances Saif is the clear winner among plethora of superb screen presences such as that of Ajay Devgan , Viviek Oberoi (Note the spelling of Viviek) , Kareena Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma. Konkona Sen Sharma is one of the finest actresses produced by Indian film industry in the last decade or so. Naseeruddin shah never disappoints as an actor; can’t be said the same for him as a director (Remember what’s happening with ‘Yun Hota To Kya Hota’). Songs like ‘Beedi Jalile’ and ‘Dhadam Dhadaiyya’ will make you hum and especially ‘Beedi Jalile’ will enthuse a lot of energy in the viewers.

The next big thing to be talked about is the ‘dialogues’. Exquisite seems to be an inappropriate word to explain the quality of dialogues used in the picture. Although some of the dialogues were not clearly audible and understandable because of the native eastern UP language used for them but most of the dialogues are killers. Saif and KonKona Sen Sharma deliver them with all that is required to make you assimilate them.

Lot of bad words and so called foul language has been used in the movie and “R” (US) and “A” (India) seems to be the most apt category in which the movie should be classified. First half is more enjoyable than the second one and mostly because of the classic timing of Saif and excellent catchy dialogues written by Vishal. There’s a scene where an eagle flying in the sky drops a dead snake in some kind of religious vessel filled with wedding turmeric in front of Kareena. There’s another where Viviek Oberoi beats up a man driving a Maruti 800 and talking on the mobile phone. Such scenes make this movie even more intense than it obviously looks.

Ajay Devgan has also done well and so did Vivek but ‘Omakara’ is completely a one man show and the showman is Saif Ali Khan. The power of the intense script and the pacing of the theme make this movie an extraordinary creation. ‘Omkara’ is a must watch. I am not sure about the box office success of this movie but ‘Omkara’ is just another masterpiece for true movie lovers.
